Description
This was only the second dress I had ever made, and the first time I had followed a sewing pattern step for step without help from a teacher, and even though I made it a bit too big, and it is far from perfect, I still learned a hell of a lot whilst making it and gained loads of confidence in myself
I slaved away at it day and night in the few weeks between my last exam and Prom and finished it a couple of hours before actually going to Prom

that's fabulous, especially for just a second creation
If it worked out a bit big in places the thing to do next time is to use your body measurements and adjust the pattern where necessary. eg if the pattern is for a 36inch bust and you are a 34 then take a little off the pattern pieces at the bust line to compensate. Take equal amounts off all the relevant pieces and smooth the cutting line so you dont end up with any strange bulges. Sonds complicated but isnt really and the clothes fit much better as a result. Try getting a book on pattern drafting out of your local library, pattern drafting from scratch is a chore but it will give you good ideas on how to amend existing patterns to adjust fit or style. If you need any help or advice drop me a note.
